With the recent influx of Mass shootings this year, is it time we looked at the Second Amendment? I talk about that and much more on the all new RANT with me, David King.
(5 minutes) Show intro/ greeting
(10-12 minutes) Opening Rant:
Mass shootings are awful and the people who commit them are sick and evil.
But why do they happen? And what can we do to solve them?
After the most recent shooting in Texas, politicians did not waste time at all, they came out of the woodwork the same day to give their opinion. Quickly making it a political issue…
And as always its the same argument. One side barks more gun control while the other side barks back 2A.. And in the end very little happens except a sudden spike in gun sales from panicked gun enthusiasts….
So what is the answer? What should we do as Americans to solve the Mass shooting crisis in this country?
Now make no mistake, I don't believe this is actually a crisis in this country, at least not in the way the media wants you to believe it is. That being said THIS IS AN AWFUL AND ATROCIOUS ACT that needs to be prevented the best way possible.
But what is the best way?
Well it's clear the left wants to implement gun control. What kind of control is a little unclear, some are saying ban AR-15s, others say “Weapons of war” whatever those are…
The president even went as far as to say the 9mm round is impractical, too powerful and should be banned from purchase.. Just so you know the 9mm is one of the smaller caliber rounds that handguns can fire.
There's no doubt that their position is to go after the ownership of firearms and I doubt it would stop at a 9mm and an AR15.
But would banning a firearm of any kind stop a mass shooting?
Well it's hard to know for sure but we can look at examples of gun bans and restrictions and how gun crime reflects that.
You don't have to look very hard either, Chicago is probably the best example of the effects of gun laws. Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and yet as of 2022 many areas have seen increases in gun crime at a rate of 100%.
Just over the memorial day weekend alone, five people were shot dead and 21 were injured. That's a light weekend for chicago.
The argument always made by policy makers is that “The guns come from outside states” and that might be true but that just proves the point that I have always made. Gun laws only affect law abiding citizens, not the criminals. If a person is hell bent on getting a firearm they will get one.
And with over 150 million illegal firearms in circulation in the US it will be easier for the criminal to get the firearm then it will be for the government to prevent it.
Well maybe gun bans don't work, but we can still pass common sense gun laws. I love that line.
The follow up to that is always “expanding background checks” but even that idea does not point toward anything concrete that would stop a mass shooting. Many of the recent shooters legally purchased their firearms and passed the federal background checks.
Not to mention aside from some private sales (not all), gun dealers both at gun shows and in their stores have to perform background checks prior to selling someone a gun.
So background checks won't stop mass shooting either.. And we already massive amounts of gun laws already on the books. Laws that prohibit for instance the carrying of firearms in schools. Almost all Schools are “Gun free zones” and yet they are one of the largest targets of mass shootings. We have also seen an uptick at churches and places of worship.
Why? Because they’re soft targets. These mental people might be insane but they know they dont want to meet immediate resistance so they go to these places.
Yes, so Banning the carrying of firearms in locations does not work either…
So what is the answer to the shooting in Texas?
Well its not simple. And it too is not a guarantee but it will be far more effective than “common sense gun laws”
1: Increase security in all public schools. Airports do it, banks do it, post offices even have it. Why can I just walk into a public school unannounced? There needs to be tightened security. There should be check ins at all entrances, and back doors/ fire escapes should be locked from the outside at all times.
There is no reason that classroom doors shouldnt be blast proof, and have strong locks on the inside in the event that an active shooter enters the building. The teacher can secure the door, and move the kids to the back of the classroom. Classrooms should have windows large enough for egress to the outside, this I believe is already a code requirement in most states.
“Well Dave its just sad we have to take these measures, we shouldnt have to bullet proof schools”
Well, banks shouldnt need a vault with a door thats two feet thick of solid steel but yet all of them do, and they have serious security that gets the cops there lightning fast..
We live in broken world, with really bad people. And pretending that you can legislate insanity is ridiculous. It would be like banning bicycles to prevent head injuries when you crash… doesnt make sense, wear a helmet.
Secure the schools!
2: politicians need to stop ignoring the mental health of this nation.
Mental health is the clearest problem in all of these events. The Columbine shooters suffered from an extreme level of nihilism to point where their remedy was the extermination of the human race.
between 2016 and 2019, childhood diagnoses of anxiety rose by 27%, while depression risk rose by 24%. Yet the analysis also indicates that about a fifth of kids who need mental health services are not getting them, a figure that held steady across all surveys.
The covid lockdowns certainly did not help these numbers either. But there is a continue in decline in mental health overall with kids. What's the answer to this? I'm not entirely sure.
There is a sharp decline in physical fitness as well in kids which could be a correlation, as well as declines in diet.
Studies are showing more now than ever that physical fitness does more to help brain function and development than “brain games”.
But it is not just kids, it's adults too. 4 in 10 report mental health issues a sharp rise from 1-10 in 2019.
This is a crisis, and its getting worse. I do not have the answers to this problem, and no one person will. This needs to be a conversation among doctors, parents, and policy makers. A genuine one, with genuine ideas.
3: We have to end the attacks on the nuclear family
For the better part of my life I have seen a decline in the emphasis in the “Nuclear family” That is for those who do not know two parents in the home, a father and a mother, actively raising their kids togethers.
Almost every mass shooter was brought up in a home with one parent, usually only the mother.
We need to stop pretending that Fathers are not important to rearing kids. No disrespect to single moms youre doing the best you can. But a father brings the other link to parenting that is necessary to raising kids. The same can be said for motherless homes, single fathers.
Both parents are needed as God intended.
According to the census 19.5 children in the US that 1 in 4 life in a home without a father.
Kids in fatherless homes are 279% more likely to carry guns, and deal drugs
Children living without a father are 47% more likely to grow in poverty
85% of youths in prison come from fatherless homes
71% of dropouts come from fatherless homes
60% of youth suicides are in fatherless homes.
With both parents present, mother and father the kid is 55% more likely to enroll in college, and has a higher percentage of success overall in life including earnings.
We need to raise our children and teach them the importance of being married, staying married, and raising kids under a two parent home.
The US as a whole continues to push against the grain on this issue and the results continue to speak for themselves.
As we move toward more single parent homes, polyamourous relationships, and an increase in divorce along with a decrease in marriage. The country's overall mental health, income levels, and crime continue to worsen.
Its not a coincidence that America has been in a sharp cultural and economic decline since the dismantling of the nuclear family.
These are just three solutions that would not restrict the rights of any American that would solve this problem of mass shootings.
But at the end of the day solving this problem does not seem to be what policymakers really want to do. Afterall dozens of Americans including children are gunned down every week in Chicago and we hear crickets from them.
Now suddenly they are paying attention? And within 24 hours of the attack they want to take away your right to bear arms, and mentioning any other solutions will get you shouted down.

(10 minutes) Respond to Emails/comments
Moving on now to emails and comments, but for this episode I'd like to address a comment made by former vice president Joe biden.
He said that the constitution and the second amendment aren't absolute.
Well They both are definitely absolute.
The 2nd amendment after all states
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Keyword there at the end “Shall not be infringed”
Another key not to point out that nowhere in the second amendment does it specifically state what arms, or for what purpose or does it? Often the left likes to say “You do not need an AR15 for hunting” but that's not what 2A is about.
Actually it clearly lays out what it is for. A well regulated militia, what is a militia? Well it's defined as an army composed of ordinary citizens rather than professional soldiers.
Well if its an army, and is utilized as a defense in times of crises. Then that would mean that the Second Amendment actually clearly states what arms and what purpose those arms are for.
Not hunting… but to fight tyranny with arms that a soldier would use. Tyranny comes in many forms…
You don't have to take my word for it either. The founders themselves wrote many letters including in the federalist papers on the topic of owning firearms.
The founders understood how important private ownership of firearms was. It helped them defeat the largest superpower at the time and gain their freedom.
They also knew history, they knew a nation of people unarmed could never stand up against the government if it became tyrannical. That in many cases, unarmed unprotected citizens have been murdered, sold to slavery, and displaced by dictators.
A well armed society keeps the government in check.
A well armed society also keeps other countries in check. Afterall Japan knew how hard it would have been to invade the mainland of the US during WW2. They understood they would be met with force beyond the Military. What a fantastic deterrent.
So no Joe.. The constitution is absolute, and so is the 2nd Amendment.
Our rights are given by our creator, not you or any body of congress. And they shall not be infringed.
