The Rant with David King

College Football Point system?

Episode Summary

After talking about how I thought the CFP should be a few episodes ago, I thought I would close out talking about College ball with an idea that came to me a few days ago. One that I think could be the answer to all our issues with the CFP. Let me know what you think by commenting on social media. And as always thank you for listening and be sure to share this podcast with your friends!

Episode Notes

CFP Point system.

Because the CFP committee will never allow every group of five champions, or any for that matter into the fold. I propose a point based system for a 12,14, or 16 team playoff. Similar to that of auto racing where drivers are awarded points based on the position they finish.  Those points go toward crowning a champion at the end of the season.

Here is how it works.

Due to the archaic, and subjective nature of Strength of schedules, win/losses, and quality of wins… This point system will do away with the subjective criteria we look at now. The teams with the most points will be awarded a place in the playoffs. The points are as follows.

Regular season Wins against unranked opponents 1pt

Regular season Wins against top 25 opponents 2 pt

Regular season Wins against top ten opponents  3 pts

Regular season wins against top five opponents 4 pts

Additional points for an away game victory is 1pt

Additional points for a win against a rival 1pt

Conference championship win 8pts

Regular season loss against a non ranked opponent -3pt

Regular season loss against a top 25 ranked opponent -2pts

Regular season loss against a top ten opponent -1pt

Regular season loss against a top five opponent - 0pt

Additional Points deducted for a loss at home -1pt

Conference championship loss results in +1 point for attending and no loss in points for losing.

End of season points, or tie breakers. (points awarded to break ties in the event too many teams qualify for the playoffs).
